Amazon Kindle review

Amazon Kindle review

The new Kindle  has 50% better contrast and sharper text as it uses the latest Electronic Ink technology for its screen.
Therefore, the screen looks like real paper, enabling you to have a reading experience similar to reading from paper. Its unique screen makes Kindle ideal for reading as there is no eye strain. Furthermore, the screen eliminates glare, and thus you can enjoy reading even in bright sunlight. This is a great advantage over most  backlit LCDs which can often create eyestrain and glare!
Kindle also comes equipped with built-in Wi-Fi, which enables you to connect to Wi-Fi hotspots anywhere. In addition, it comes with free 3G wireless, (albeit limited to 100k per month) without any monthly bills or annual contracts. You can utilize it to search and download on the go! It also has global 3G coverage in over 100 countries and territories, so you can still stay in touch with home news or get new books while travelling.
Carrying a Kindle around is also very convenient as it weighs only 8.7 ounces and is just 1/3 of an inch thick , lighter than a typical book and thinner than a magazine.
Moreover, the storage space of Kindle allows you to carry up to 3,500 books! You can now carry your entire library instead of choosing which books to bring. With Wi-Fi or 3G, you can add new books to your Kindle library easily. Another added advantage of Kindle books is that they can be read on other devices including iPhone, iPad, PC, Mac, Android and Blackberry.
Using Whispersync, it syncs the place you stopped reading across your devices, and thus you can continue from where you stopped.
Kindle is also really simple to use. You can use it right out of the box, no need for setup or software installation!
It also has excellent battery life that can lasts up to one month if the wireless is off or up to 10 days with wireless on. Hence, you can read longer without charging. As it uses low power consumption, it never gets warm, so you can hold it and read comfortably for extended periods. Kindle is small and light, and fits perfectly in one hand. Furthermore, its page-turning buttons are on both sides, enabling you to switch hands and still be able to turn pages easily. With all its features, Kindle is a perfect choice if you are looking for an electronic reading device!

Humpback whales – We have emigrated to Nova Scotia

I can’t believe how long it has been since I updated this blog.

The great news is that we are now living in Nova Scotia, on Brier Island, where we go to see the humpback whales.

We arrived in May 2009, having taken early retirement from work and we bought a house on Brier Island (house prices are very cheap here, in comparison to the UK).

Our great dream was always to follow the humpback whales to Canada in the summer and back to the warmer clime’s in the winter. We are half way there. We found out that we could apply to be Permanent Residents of Canada via The Nova Scotia Community Nominee Program, so we asked our friends and neighbors if they would sponsor us, and they agreed (Nova Scotian’s are very friendly).

So we began the application process in July 2009. The whales will not start to arrive here until mid to end of May, so I thought I would write a few pages on how our emigration process went, before the whale watching season starts.

Due to various Company takeovers at the place I worked, our private pension scheme was now on hold, with no further contributions (the last Company refused to take it on), so at 55 years old , I decided to cash in the pension (cash payment plus a monthly pension).

We couldn’t have picked a worse time – do you remember the meltdown of banks in 2008, and the pensions schemes that folded? – well we lost $10,000 out of our pension fund, as a result of that. Nonetheless, we had a dream and we went ahead with it.

With our pension now established, we spent a magical week in Nova Scotia, in September 2008, where the Universe pulled out all the stops, getting a free upgrade on our rental car from economy to top of the range Cheroke Jeep, plus a free hotel upgrade from economy to the premium suite.

The sun shone, and humpback whales frolicked at the side of the whale watching boats on the three trips we went out on. We had primarily been looking at houses that we had seen on the internet, but had not yet found the one we were looking for.

Returning to the hotel from one house hunting trip, Anne was chatting to the receptionist, Diane, about our search for a house and Diane asked what our budget was, then said ‘You can buy mine for that price’. The house was on the island, so we agreed to view that evening. Meanwhile, we went to take any early look at the house. Anne burst into tears when we saw it – this was the red and white house on the hill that she had seen in many dreams and visions over the last few years.

After we had viewed the house that evening, we knew this was the one we had been looking for and we said we would be interested in buying the house. We rang a local surveyor, who called the next day and surveyed the house. He said it was in sound shape and a bargain at the price offered. The next day, we found a solicitor in Digby and he set up the exchange of contracts documentation there and then. We signed, paid a deposit on the house purchase.

Diane signed the next day and we went back to the UK with all the legal aspects that we had to deal with done and dusted. For the next three to four weeks we were in contact with the solicitor by email, arranged for the funds to be transferred (which was not straightforward as the funds were investigated by UK security under new anti-terrorist money laundering laws), and finally received the title deeds, now the house was ours.

Apple iPod touch 32 GB review

Apple iPod touch 32 GB review

Many people are impressed by Apple and it’s range of products. One of the famous products of this brand is the Apple iPod touch 32 GB.
With it’s large memory, you will be able to store thousands of songs and more other forms of data in this device.
The first thing that will catch your attention with the Apple iPod touch 32 GB is its appearance. The sleek slim design and the 960×640 display make it an attractive option for most buyers. The retina display delivers a smooth look in the screen of the device. The resolution is one of the highest in its line of technologies. Even the individual pixels are indiscernible.
And more than just the appearance, you will experience precise and fast operations. Multitask all you want and still have a fully running device. The A4 processor makes this possible. If you are using your iPod for motion sensor games, you can benefit from its advancement in this area. The increased motion sensor capabilities make it a more efficient device that will get you to the finish line as a winner.
If you are a picture addict, the Apple iPod touch 32 GB  is  a good solution. With the double cameras available, you will be able to shoot great videos with the back camera and be able to talk in front of the camera at the front of the device. Take note that video recording is made in high definition.
One thing that might be stopping most from getting this item is the price. Maybe, once you have heard all of its features, you will change your mind and buy one, no matter what the price is.
